Ojochal is a village of a few hundred people with an improbable number of good kitchens — and Exótica has been at the centre of it since 1998. Find us on Avenida Principal, beneath a thatched roof, surrounded by jungle.
A wave of French and French-Canadian settlers arrived in the southern zone in the 1990s and brought their kitchens with them. Exótica opened in 1998, one of the first — and the reason people still drive down from Uvita, Dominical and Pérez Zeledón for dinner.
Today Ojochal has a genuine restaurant scene for a village its size: Thai, Peruvian, Italian, seafood shacks and bakeries. Exótica remains the room people book for the occasion.
Classical French technique as the backbone, with Asian, Polynesian and Mediterranean influences layered on top — duck breast with citrus, fresh Pacific fish, Polynesian carpaccio, house pastas. Everything is cooked to order in a small kitchen, which is why we ask you to book ahead.
Avenida Principal, Ojochal de Osa, Puntarenas — a few minutes off the Costanera Sur (Route 34). Parking is on site.
We are open Tuesday to Saturday, 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Reservations are essential in high season (December to April) and preferred in green season. Parties of seven or more require a reservation year-round, and parties of five or more are asked for a $20-per-person deposit, credited to your bill on the night.
